The Day After
Christmas is gone and I say good riddance, ol’ pal. The kids had fun, my husband and family made a huge effort to make things nice — and special, not just the usual routine — but I just was not crazy about Christmas this year. Maybe it’s because I always expect snow, and instead we get buckets of rain — and I want to go out and see the lights, but it’s cold and wet and I am getting over bronchitis and still feeling run-down.
I’ve got no idea. It’s ennui. It’s me being selfish. I keep trying, but I just cannot get out of this little funk.
But yesterday — Christmas Day — it snowed here.
It never snows here on Christmas Day, ever. I remember maybe twice when I was a kid, we had snow on Christmas Day. There must be someone, somewhere, trying to get my attention. There must be a God somewhere, like one of my favorite hymns says. Or maybe it’s a coincidence.
What would you think about something like that?
Edited at 10:45 a.m. to say: You know where my children are? Still sleeping. What in the heck am I whining about? You know those mothers (and grandmothers), the ones who say, WAKE UP, WAKE UP! You’re going to miss the hens moo-ing and the pigs chirruping and the rice growing!???!!! Wake UP!
Internets, I am not one of those mothers. My mothering style: They’re asleep, oh awesome I can write now.
11 a.m.: They’re awake and eating toaster waffles (thank you, Wacky Girl, for your cooking skilz, Mommy loves you), pears and the gingerbread houses they made in school. Why they would want to eat stale candy when there is a whole container of Christmas chocolates right there is beyond me, but to each his own. I guess they’re saving the chocolates for later.
There must be someone, somewhere. That’s what I’m thinking.
Congrats on the job! Also, I am right there with the ennui. Maybe I need to have a cup of coffee or something…

I’ve got buckets of ennui. They don’t do me much good. And the snow, probably not quincidence. They don’t do those here, you know.
