Feel like being political?
Dear Reader,
I love MomsRising for many, many reasons, but mainly I love them because they make it so easy for me to do some political work while I’m still in my pajamas. Here’s an e-mail I got from them today. I highly recommend signing up on their e-mail list, and sending them a few bucks when you can spare it.
Yours in female power,
WM
Dear MomsRising Member,
Last Saturday we alerted you to the Fisher Price recall of preschool toys due to toxic lead in the paint (Check the end of this email for specific info on what’s being recalled.). Since then our petition to protect children from toxic toys and products has grown to over 10,000 strong. Thank you!
Yesterday the front page of the New York Times told the story of unsuccessful years of U.S. effort to get lead out of children’s jewelry. Case in point last year a 4 year old boy who swallowed a charm with lead in it died of seizures, vomiting and respiratory arrest. Scott Wolfson of the consumer safety commission is quoted saying “We want to get to a point of not having to do recall after recall and simply make the marketplace safe.” We couldn’t agree more including getting rid of lead paint on toys and other children’s products. Here is the link to the NY Times article.
For maximum impact, we need to keep the number of signatures on the petition growing. In fact, let’s double the number of signatures! Congress and the Consumer Product Safety Commission need to hear from as many people as possible that they must keep unsafe products out of our children’s hands.
KEEP THE PETITION GROWING: Help double the number of petition signatures for children’s safety from toxic products by forwarding this email around so friends can sign the petition as well. Sign the petition here.
Thank you for your efforts to speak up for all our children.

P.P.S. GREAT NEWS!! The Ledbetter Fair Pay Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives on July 31st! Your over 17,000 letters to congress helped to make this happen. Great work. Now, the bill needs to pass out of the Senate. Sign our petition and send it to friends and family to keep the momentum going
