virtue
“Virtue is performance,” I said to Danielle Westerman on Wednesday when we had lunch in her sunroom. “A form of acting. Someone said something like that, but I can’t remember who.”
“Yeats, I think,” she said dreamily, stretching in her chair.
“Yes, Yeats.”
— “Unless,” Carol Shields
I think virtue is highly overrated. How are you doing, dear?

also i hate my surgeon and am worried that i will throw something at her if i go in for post-op next week As Required By Law. did i mention that she “didn’t realize” that i was in recovery for 3 hours and “didn’t even know” that i was admitted to hospital overnight thus “somehow forgetting” (my words now, not hers) to make rounds and check on me the next day?
THANK GOD FOR NURSES. I had a crew of them and they were all wonderful. I love you, nurses. Thanks for taking such good care of me.
OK, i can’t talk about it anymore i’ll get too pissed off all over again.
breathe, breathe, breathe…
