Was it good? I’m a fan of the books, but I found HP 7 pt 1 very difficult to sit through. So many changes and such a dark mood to it. I didn’t get a real sense of the characters until nearly at the end. I’m not looking forward to pt 2.
Oh, it was super good. I was worried, too, after part one. I’ve never liked Yates, much — I prefer Christopher Columbus’s directing, for sure. Wish he’d done the entire series.
It gets a little Lord of the Rings-ish, in the second half of the film, but that’s how Rowling wrote it so there you go.
It was like catching up with old friends, and that made me happy. Of course I was crying through the whole damn thing, starting with Harry at Dobby’s grave, by the sea. (emotional girl.)
Throughout the books, you know that the professors at Hogwarts are gifted wizards and witches, but you don’t get to see them in action. I liked that about the film, too. They kick ass. And… for me, the seventh book was really about the women — Rowena Ravenclaw and her daughter, Mrs. Weasley, Professor McGonagall, Hermione, even Narcissa. So all of those scenes were gratifying. I’d give it a B+. wm
