“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”

— H. Jackson Brown, Jr., writer

Yep, but notice none of those people was a single mom. Come to think of it, was even one a mom? Maybe Helen Keller…
Anyway, I agree with Betty Freidan, I want a wife. (If only I “played for the home team.” Alas, I am tragically hetero.)

No, I do not want a wife, if it means slave! (Which is what it usually means.) A well-paid bodyguard and/or nanny — that’s a different thing :) “I need a wife!” is what my ma always said while I was growing up, then she’d turn over more of the cooking responsibilities, shopping, laundry, etc. to moi. (She was a single mom from the time I was 9.) To this day I think everything’s my responsibility and my fault, as well. (“Pity party for Wacky Mommy, over this way!”)

The best relationship advice I’ve gotten was from a friend of a friend, who said, “HA! That’s what women friends are for!” when a woman on a talk show said, tearfully, that she’d left her husband cuz “he doesn’t meet my needs.”

Girl power, for married or single women — that’s the real deal.

Helen Keller (never married, no kids) had serious girl power with Anne Sullivan. They are interred together, even. From the Royal National Institute of the Blind website:

“Today Helen’s final resting place is a popular tourist attraction and the bronze plaque erected to commemorate her life has the following inscription written in braille:

‘Helen Keller and her beloved companion Anne Sullivan Macy are interred in the columbarium behind this chapel.’

So many people have visited the chapel, and touched the braille dots, that the plaque has already had to be replaced twice.”

    Later, gator,
