Thursday Thirteen #103: 13 of My Favorite Things on a Hot Summer Night
Thirteen, how I love you.
I love these hot summer nights, too. Especially:
13) Cool, crisp, clean sheets on the bed after a
12) Cool shower
11) Ice cream in the yard
10) Watering the vegetable garden and hanging flower baskets last thing at night so I don’t have to water first thing in the morning
9) Smelling the night-blooming jasmine that has taken over my fence
8) Watching my kids splash in their wading pool
7) Writing in my journal in the yard
6) Croquet!
5) Badminton!
4) Hanging the laundry out on the line and it’s dry by the morning
3) Getting the kids to bed and staying up late, drinking gin and tonics and playing cards with my husband (Pounce! aka Nerts!)
2) Listening to all the night noises — crazy howling cats, neighbors out for midnight walks, all of the sounds that are missing or muffled during the winter
1) Crickets
(Edited Thursday morning to say: How cool is that — I have Meatloaf ringtones on Google ads over there! Go click my ads, I (heart) Google money. I was singing “Hot Summer Night” in the shower last night, after writing this post. Heh heh. Thank you for all the comments — you guys are the best readers ever.)
Makes me feel ashamed of my whining about the heat – you are so on target – what a blessing summer is.

Summer nights are the best – we have a roof, not a yard, but I love eating up there and then watching the kids run around and play.
Happy TT.

What an evocative TT. I’ll try to think of some of the things you listed when we get hit hard by Old Man Winter.

Wow, I haven’t played croquet in years. It’s more an autumn sport here in Florida. As a matter of fact, your post just made me wish we were in October, when all those things will be possible again….

Oooo, Me too. Gawd, how I love clean sheets. Even better than crisp sheets? Flannel sheets on a really cold night.

What a great list! I must learn how to play that card game! I love summer too.

Yes, we must hold onto these summer thoughts! The clothes line is great for that fresh smell. Great summer list.

Oh man, this is one of my favorite TTs of the day! You REALLY make me not want to go to work in 1/2 an hour! :-( Thanks for the visuals ;-)

The first two are the bestest! Happy TT!

I told you about this last winter when you had “13 Things to do in the Snow” & said, it’d have to wait for a hot night. I’ll tell you about it again, now that it’s hot.
Something my kids did in Youth Group that sounded like a BLAST: each kid had a big block of ice; they went to Mt. Tabor Park; sat on the ice blocks at the top of a hill; slid down ’til their heart’s content, or their ice block melted, whichever came first.

I now have to go outside.
Great post!
