I’ve Just Been Thoroughly Blown Off. Huh.

“So difficult it is to show the various meanings and imperfections of words when we have nothing else but words to do it with.”

— John Locke, philosopher (1632-1704)

And now, a note from my old roommate, who doesn’t have time for tools. I had e-ed her, hoping to catch up.

Hi Nancy!

Good to hear from you. I’m still in DC, working for (blah blah political). I’m hoping to come out to Oregon in August this summer. My work trips back to the state are always jam-packed and I don’t know what days or how many of them I’ll have in the Portland area but I’d love to see you if it works – I don’t usually have a lot of time to tool around though. Anyway, please roughly mark your calen for potentially in Aug and I’ll update you when I know more. Are you still in the same place? How old are your kids now?

Great you have a blog, but, I’ll admit, I’m not much of an internet person. I did recently read a fun book about a blogger – Julie and Julia… have you heard of it? A lot of fun.

Anyway, would love to hear more about what you’re up to and would love to see you this summer if we can make it work!

Hugs,

Little Miss

Now. I’m thinking she’s out here a lot, and is sorta ‘fessin’ up? See what I am? Chopped liver, that’s what. That’s fine. I mean, honestly, since I’ve become a mother, my ego is OUT THE WINDOW. I have NO EGO anymore. Seriously. You could be rude as hell to me, and I would be all, Huh. And walk away. Unless you’re someone I’m doing a huge project with, it which case I would say, Huh. Are we going to finish this project or what? Also, I, too, have a jam-packed life, what with cooking dinner, starting a new job, entertaining Young Wacky Boy and His BFF, who just got back from TEXAS and headed straight to our house. Also, I should Swiffer, don’t you think? And perhaps finish up the tiny bit o’ work I haven’t finished from my old job? Yes. I cleaned out one of my offices and still have another to pack up.

Plus there are all these raspberries to pick. And I was thinking about phoning my sister. Huh.

If you’re in D.C., and you’re all political, don’t you think you’d want to read the blogs? In hopes of, you know. Maybe catching up to speed? Just sayin’. Since she doesn’t read ’em, I think I’ll go ahead and post this. Heh heh heh heh heh. And now, your word of the day:

grammatolatry
PRONUNCIATION:
(gram-uh-TOL-uh-tree)

MEANING:
noun: The worship of words: regard for the letter while ignoring the spirit of something.

(Thank you, Anu!)

I think you need another QOTD, don’t you? How about two?:

“There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for.”
— Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948)

and…

“Language is a form of human reason, which has its internal logic of which man knows nothing.”
— Claude Levi-Strauss, anthropologist (b. 1908)

And if you’re in the mood for something fun, check here. Oh, we love the little fishies. (That one is from Zip and for Nan.)

(RIP, Ms. Olive.)

PS — Edited to say, BlackFriend informs me I have “plenty” of ego left, (well, she would know, wouldn’t she? HA!) and “How could you even type that with a straight face?” I am of George Costanza School: It’s not a lie if you really believe it.

PSS — My husband signed up for Twitter. You’ll want to follow him, believe me. Nothing but constant updates — the breath mint he’s enjoying, the stuff he’s finding in his desk drawer, what he had for breakfast. And lunch. His “thingy” is supposedly set to private, but go for it, anyway.

PPSS — Uh. That came out wrong.
