i love my blog and y’all. what’s up??????????

December 5th, 2010

here’s what is going on this weekend, and it’s all good:

1) since i’m taking a break from classes for, oh, the foreseeable future, I have some free time.

2) we bought PacMan Party and Just Dance 2 for the Wii and omg — we’re all four having so much fun. Especially with the old arcade games (PacMan, Galaga, Dig Dug). Our sweet little neighbor kid was over — he and Wacky Girl danced like mad to “Proud Mary” and it was so fun. “Soooooooooooo fun,” as my son would say.

3) Last night the four of us played Apples to Apples and it’s our new favorite family game (besides Wii). We giggled and just hung out.

4) Today I’m making Black Bean Soup, Asian Noodle Salad, and cornbread, three of our old favorites. (Corn Casserole actually sounds better, but plain cornbread with honey and butter will be more kid-friendly.)

5) i’m trying so so soooooooooooooo hard to not bake Christmas cookies and it is killing me. (just fyi.) (Edited on Tuesday to say: I don’t have to bake ’em — BlogHer is doing it for me. Ha.)

cha-cha-cha.

We moved the decorations from the rafters in the garage but we are approaching decorating slowly! We love Apples to Apples too…

At this end: It is the sunniest day in some time, and I bought a snow shovel, an impulse buy at Fred Meyer. And then Walgreen’s had one for much less, but the plastic scoop didn’t have a metal edge on it. It was hard to say which handle was better.

Still finishing off honey roasted acorn squash (with olive oil, salt, pepper, too), a simple but tasty dish.

I hope you are relieved at not dealing with the not-so-academic issues.

TOL, the kids decorated the tree and house with my mother-in-law last week. I am usually over the top with the “tacky” (snowglobes, my grandma’s half-melted Christmas candles from the ’50s) but this year I showed restraint and said “Whoa!” as soon as they got… 1/3 of the way there? First time for everything… Happy decorating, and here’s to paper snowflakes cut out at the kitchen table.

Dan, the sun was glorious, no? Steve did squash for us a few weeks ago with maple syrup and butter. Very satsifying. (And yes, by the way. Load off my mind and kitchen table.)

Hope you have lots of relaxing time. And hey, if you DO bake cookies… send me some? I can just never seem to get around to it!
