Diary from Louisiana 2

September 2nd, 2005

(We received this in the afternoon of Sept. 1)

J and WM,

Hey — my mom is OK. One of her friends had cell service and she called this morning. They are without power & communications but are alive and well. It is expected that my sister’s house is completely destroyed and the cats are dead, but we are still hopeful. Any word on J? The criminals that had the ability to leave N.O. are now bum rushing and robbing accross town. Rescue efforts have been thwarted by people trying to shoot down and rob rescue helicopters.

Diary from Louisiana 1

From C (this was from the morning of Sept. 1, before they knew their mom was alive):

J,

We are all here, except my mom and there is no word on her right now and the death toll in Harrison County where she lives is on the rise. We are just hoping that her house stood or she was able to get to somewhere safe but it was pretty bad there when we last spoke and the eye wall hadn’t even hit.

my girlfriends’ mama

September 1st, 2005

Wacky Sister and i have been stomachs-in-knots cuz our dear sweet friends C and R live outside of New Orleans and we know how bad it is there. No, we don’t, those of us who aren’t there. But we’ve heard, and we’ve seen pictures. R’s house on the lake is destroyed, C’s house (in Baton Rouge) has been without power. But the scariest news was that their mom, who lives in Gulfport, Miss., could not be located. But she found a friend who had cell service and she called and she is OK she is alive, thank God. Yay to moms!!!!!

Do These Ones Fit? Do These?

August 28th, 2005

We went school shopping today. Honest to God, parents should get combat pay for spending an hour at Gap Kids trying fifty pairs of jeans on their wiggly little almost-five-year-old. Out of these fifty, two fit. Sort of.

Yes, there were 2 (two) dressing rooms for 800 (eight hundred) children.

Jeans were on sale. Yes, her three-year-old brother had to go along. Fine with him, as he enjoys licking the filthy carpets in dressing rooms and spends most of his time in there rolling about like a little puppy in a meadow.

Signed,

Tired Wacky Mommy
